Here at Birtley House we have a dedicated team of qualified nurses and care staff. The staff are continually updating their knowledge, through mandatory training provided by the company and also from specialist training in areas of care that affect the elderly e.g. pressure prevention. Some of the staff have had specialist training in the use of passive movements in spinal injuries.
Birtley House was awarded 'Care Team of the Year' at the 2016 Surrey Care Association Awards. In addition to this fantastic accolade we were also finalists in the following categories for the 2017 awards – “Outstanding Contribution to Social Care”, “Innovation and Good Practice in Staff Recruitment” & “Retention and Register Manager of the Year”. We pride ourselves in providing the highest standards in care which spans across the whole team from managers to companions and the support services team. This level of care is demonstrated through our dedication and compassion for each and every resident here at Birtley House.
The staff have considerable experience in working with Residents who have specialist needs due to their underlying condition, such as Parkinson’s and Multiple Sclerosis. Using a holistic approach to care we are also able to support and care for any Resident who is in need of palliative care.
A high percentage of our care staff have either completed, or are completing their NVQ levels 2 and 3. This has a direct effect on the care our Residents receive, as the knowledge of the care team continually grows.
The introduction of 'Keyworkers', with one named member of the team allocated to each Resident, has enhanced the continuity of care for each of our Residents.
Above all else, compassion is essential and this is displayed in the way the care staff and the nursing team approach and support the Residents. The team aim to “go the extra mile” for our residents, helping to enhance their quality of life and the safe care they deserve to receive.
